I go to MAC several times a week, and I am friends with everyone who works there. Every time I walk in, they insist I take samples of the latest collections. Trust me, if they think you'll buy it, they're happy to let you try it :)

Yes, it is true but I have found that it all depends on the MA (makeup artist) some are more willing than others to give out the free samples. I would recommend only asking for pigment samples when making a purchase, they are more likely to give you more of a sample than if you just ask for the sample and don't purchase anything. Yes, but go and at least pretend you are thinking of buying something. Then act as if you can't decide on the colors you want and ask for a sample. Usually most brand name counters will do this and Sephora does too. You won't get enough to last you a month, but you will get enough to be satisfied to last for at least a week. Especially if you get like 2 or 3 colors.
