True or false, to calculate a t statistic you must first compute the sample mean and sample variation?

This isn't cheating, teacher said to use all resources....True or false, to calculate a t statistic you must first compute the sample mean and sample variation?
ANSWER: TRUE

Why??

Test statistic formula: t = (x-bar - 渭)/(s/SQRT(n))

x-bar = estimate of the Population Mean (statistical mean of the sample)

n=number of individuals in the sample

s=standard deviation

渭=Population MeanTrue or false, to calculate a t statistic you must first compute the sample mean and sample variation?
Yes you need to find the sample mean and variance to find a t statistic. But there is more to it than just that. The data set needs to come from a normal population and you must be using the sample standard deviation. if the data comes from a normal population and you have the population stddev then you use a z statistic.
